ENSEMBLES
SYMPHONIC WINDS
Symphonic Winds is our audition-based, premier performing ensemble here at JICHS. In 2019, and for the first year of its existence, this ensemble received a "Superior with Distinction" rating at the South Carolina Concert Performance Assessment, performing Grade V literature. This group is classified as a true Wind Ensemble, or a smaller concert band with 1 performer per part.
JAZZ BAND
Jazz Band is a newer ensemble at JICHS and meets during the school day. Students enrolled in Jazz Band learn to play in a variety of jazz styles and how to improvise on the spot, all while preparing for concerts and gigs throughout the community. In the spring of 2022, they earned Superior with Distinction honors at the All-State Jazz Performance Assessment. At the 2022 WorldStrides Festival in New Orleans, the ensemble earned the best band score of the entire festival and, as a result, they received the Outstanding Band Award!
CONCERT BAND
The Concert Band is the core unit of our band program, serving as our larger performing ensemble. It is in this setting that students learn the fundamental and technical skills required to be a fine musician. This ensemble presents a minimum of four concerts each year. In 2018 & 2019, the Concert Band earned a "Superior with Distinction" rating at the South Carolina Concert Performance Assessment, performing Grade IV literature.
"PRIDE OF THE ISLAND" MARCHING BAND
The marching band at JICHS is what our community sees most often. While serving an integral role in the the spirit of our community, the "Pride of the Island" can be seen and heard in various parades, community events, and under the Friday night lights. Go Trojans!!
